My Story
I'm taking on Epilepsy Society's Challenge 100 - committing to completing 100 miles in 100 days! Starting from the 1st of January. Which means my partner Stephen will be completing it with me (sorry Stephen). Please help me to raise as much as possible.
Back in August I had my first known seizure. It's been a tough journey for me but the help from organisations and support groups has been my saving grace.
My seizures are not yet managed. I am very much in the eye of the storm looking for a diagnosis. Epilepsy or FND I know it is so important to raise money for neurological disorders which are underfunded.
The seizures and the side effects from my medication does make day to day life difficult. I don't have the confidence to leave the house alone. I can't drive. I can't have a shower without someone outside the door. Cooking has become a safety hazard. This is the reality for a lot of people.
1 in 100 people in the UK are living with epilepsy. Three people are diagnosed with epilepsy every day and a third of people with epilepsy do not have access to effective treatments.
This challenge will truly be a challenge for me. I will be walking it. I can't promise I'll be able to walk everyday but the 100 miles will be completed in 100 days, even if Stephen has to walk me round in my wheelchair. Team work makes the dream work!
Thank you for taking time to read my story. I hope this challenge will not only raise money for a great cause but also helps with my self confidence.
