My Story
I'm taking on Epilepsy Society's Challenge 100. Please help me to raise as much as possible and help those who need it most.
1 in 100 people in the UK are living with epilepsy. Three people are diagnosed with epilepsy every day and a third of people with epilepsy do not have access to effective treatments.
I was diagnosed with epilepsy in May 2024, following two tonic clonic seizures in April. I have had 7 seizures (latest 18th December) in total since April and over 20 partial seizures.
Medication is helping but like many epileptics, my condition is not fully controlled (and probably never will be). My triggers are intense white LED lighting (bad for everyone), strobe lighting, intense stress and over tiredness.
2024 was a life changing year in many ways and I am thankful for the love, support and prompt actions of my wife Maria, who saved my life and is now my official carer. I intend to continue to live my life to the full taking each day as it comes. I am especially thankful to be able to celebrate Christmas this year, as things could easily have turned out so differently.
I will use my experience to educate others and support the Epilepsy Society with fundraising events.
This challenge to walk 100 mile in 100 days will end in April 2025 - almost a year to the day since my first seizure. Having already passed 100 miles I hope to reach 200 miles by the end of the challenge.
Research is so important and every penny donated makes a big difference. Thank you for your support! Wish me luck!
